The narrow width of this 2 acre site inspired the sequential layout of volumes - garage, guest house, and main house, connected by an enclosed walkway. This allows living/dining room and master bedroom to both have lake views. This 4,000 square foot project combines local fieldstone with corrugated metal panels and cedar. The interiors were designed to complement the palette of natural materials. The renovation of the New York headquarters of the American Institute of Graphic Arts was executed in phases, allowing the AIGA to remain fully functional as the construction work proceeded. Within the 5-story, 20,000-square-foot building, EFM created a public exhibition gallery on the ground floor, and, on remaining floors, a lecture hall and office space, as well as an archive and research vault.
